Classroom Management Tips from Teachingideas.co.uk

Get kids to design the classroom displays and change the layout

Set up a "finishing-off" work file for each pupil

Keep a marking grid sheet for ease of reference at parents' evening

Appoint noise police for rowdy sessions

Get kids to stand up and wait until you nod, rather than them ask to go to the toilet

For tidying messy classrooms - "magic piece of rubbish"

Line up kids quietly by asking them to creep as quietly as they can / alphabet exits - they must give you (for example) a food - avacado, baked beans, cake etc / play chinese whispers

Put pupils' names on a washing line (they make the clothes) and turn an item over when you want some participation. When you get to the last name, turn them all over again

Hold Friday raffles with tickets given for good behaviour

Chance cards - give out for good behaviou and put in a box. Draw at the end of the day or week and give sweets out
