How to use Youtube Videos at School

This is great - there are so many videos out there on Youtube, Schooltube, Teachertube and Teachers' TV (goes straight to section for primary-aged pupils)...

What do you do, then, when your school firewall blocks the website?

There are two main ways of getting around this - one easy and and one easier:

  1. If the site allows downloads - simply save to your pen drive and play at school using Windows Media Player, Apple Quicktime or Real Player
  2. If the site does not allow downloads - find the URL / hyperlink to the video, copy it and paste into box 1 on the Zamzar site
If following method 2, you also need to:
  • Convert it to a flash file ending in .flv (see box 2) and, when Zamzar emails you the link to your file, save it in the usual place.
  • You can then insert the flash file into Smart Notebooks or Promethean; both of which have an inbuilt flash movie player.
