General

musicforteachers.org - Run by Shropshire Council, this site has a lot to offer - sections on composing, performing, listening, learning, assessment, planning and resources. Highly recommended as a starting point.

North West Grid for Learning - Lesson plans and ideas for developing musical skills, knowledge and understanding.

New York Philharmonic - A brilliant site! Designed in a colourful, stimulating way, this has a treasure trove of musical goodies including a composition workshop, information about instruments with sound files, make your own instrument, composer information and games to play.

creatingmusic.com - Fantastic IWB activities including a rhythm band and musical sketch pad - both are highly recommended. You'll also find games requiring children to listen to music and changes in pitch.

playmusic.org - Learn about and listen to well-known pieces of music demonstrating the sounds of the many different instruments found in an orchestra. There are also lots of videos of young people playing instruments and some games including my favourite - the percussion face off.
