5 star sites
Last updated 9th September 2006
Given that there are so many excellent websites out there I wanted to boil it down to the best all-rounders - sites that cater well for all or most of the primary curriculum. The page is divided into three sections:
Sites with lesson plans and resources
Sites with web links and content
Sites with web links
Sites with lesson plans and resources:
iwb.org.uk - The mother of all IWB sites! Collates the best links and resources from all around the web in an easy to use menu structure.
primaryresources.co.uk - NGFL approved site with lesson ideas and interactive ICT-based resources across the whole curriculum.
teachingideas.co.uk - very good lesson ideas
bbc.co.uk/teachers - Worksheets, classroom ideas, revision help and other resources. Ordered by age group and subject area - very easy to use and backed up by content on a variety of BBC websites.
tre.ngfl.gov.uk - The NGfL Teacher Resource Exchange - activities, planning, assessment, homework and assemblies.
School Zone - Brilliant database of reviewed websites plus some decent IWB Resources.
hamiltontrust.org.uk - primary-focussed weekly plans for maths and english plus information for NQTs and topic-based planning.
Standards Site Primary Resources - 100's of government-approved resources for the primary classroom.

Sites with links and content:
Hertfordshire Grid for Learning - Brilliant website offering links and resources organised by QCA module.
Wales Grid for Learning - Another fantastic site with masses of tailored content, resources and links.
Kent Grid for Learning - A 5-star site with links and content. Covers the whole curriculum with few gaps. Highly recommended.
educate.org - A great site with links and lesson plans but its main selling point is that it is so easy to find something useful. Simply click on "schools" then "primary" and you can then go through subject areas which are divided into QCA and NC strands. You need to register but this is free.
Woodland Grange Primary School - A brilliant site - check out the "e-learning" section (ICT resources made by children to teach their peers) and the "staffroom" for selected weblinks and teaching resources.
Northumberland Grid for Learning - A particularly good GfL site packed with resources and ideas.
ictteachers.co.uk - Loads of resources and links for incorporating ICT into other lessons.
primaryideas.co.uk - A great find! Resources, lesson plans, ideas and weblinks for every curriculum area plus whole-school issues such as assessment.
schoolslinks.co.uk - A well organised site with good coverage of all curriculum subjects. Loads of resources including some very well chosen weblinks.
answers.com - Fantastic online encyclopedia and dictionary; combines the best features of Wikipedia with several other reference sites.
About.com - homework - Great homework section with useful facts on most subjects; albeit with an American slant.

Sites with links:
Coxhoe School - hundreds of topic and subject-specific links on a fairly basic but very useful and comprehensive site.
topmarks.co.uk - Search engine for educational sites. Does the job very well.
teachernet.gov.uk/primaryteachingresources - Teachernet list of suggested resources for primary school teachers.
byteachers.org.uk - Websites created and maintained by teachers in England. Free resources!
schoolzone.co.uk - 40,000 educational websites on the database - most of these reviewed by teachers. Highly recommended portal
kevinsplayroom.co.uk - Another amazing portal with over 2,000 links for children, teachers and other adults. Kevin's playroom is organised by subject and there is an awful lot there.
